Mayoral Office

Erskineville Town Hall — 26.3.2019
presented as part of March Dance

I begin by lying in the lobby of Erskineville Town Hall, and navigate my feet across the honour roll. I stand on my toes and walk through the empty town hall, leading the audience to follow. In each office I enact a different position using extreme flexibility or control, meanwhile suggesting different aspects of business and professionalism. These range from sexualised to submissive to absurd. I deliver a mimed business presentation while rolled into a tight ball; I animate a lectern in a sexualised way; I drag the lectern by my feet while crawling; I place my hips inside a small cupboard in the wall; I very slowly let an office chair fall onto my face. These thread into an incoherent but familiar stream of business motifs and activate the bodily restraints of office environments, drawing out an eroticism that is both surprising and bleak.
